Guy Latulippe is a Canadian designer bag that teaches sewing in Toronto at the laboratory. When he contacted me to ask if you want to test a soon-to-be released model, I knew that I had found the perfect project to share with you.
I set it enthusiastically on his simple model satchel. (You can purchase the downloadable template here). Accumulated on canvas and hardware to MacCulloch and Wallis. I buy a lot from that shop. When you die and go to heaven, you'll find me curled up in their closet.
The hardware might seem frightening and names can be perplexing-D-rings? Lobster Clip? -but don't be scared. This bag is designed to be a beginner-friendly and fun project that just needs a little tube of fabric. It took me just under three hours to do.
This is a great project for learning some of the steps involved with downloadable templates and become familiar with the terminology of sewing as ' marks ', ' Board ' and ' stitching top stitching. There are only a few pages to tape together to have the pattern and instructions are illustrated with pencil drawings 3D – a pleasant antidote to the coldness of computer-generated drawings. (By the way, I've found that hand drawings seemed able to contain more information. Did you find that?)
Especially with this project, don't try to understand what is being said – just follow the instructions and you will be able to enjoy the magic of origami as the bag fabric gathers. Boy, do whatever he tells you to and suddenly ... Hey, Look! I did everything a lot!
And a bag of what is. This is my preferred type – simple, over the shoulder or across the body, not too many bells and whistles. An adjustable strap and the perfect size to slip your iPad into. (Yes, one that – I checked.)
All words of warning? I might be careful how often the selected fabric. My canvas has become quite cumbersome to work with, sometimes, so if you're a total beginner, you might want to choose something lighter. A thick cotton or twill, maybe. Upholstery fabrics or tent would be hard enough to hold the shape of the bag. You might even be able to save the existing bag fabric – so think outside the box and have fun.
‧ You have other sewing bag models we recommend or other projects for beginners?
