York officials said: "we have a number of old ceremonial robes worn by the Sheriff of York and honorary aldermen trim, that have some very old hair. However, Sheriff's robe is due to go for renovations, and the fur trim is replaced with synthetic fur, as is our policy.
"Also, last year we acquired a new ceremonial cap of maintenance that is worn by our sword-bearer ... This was a new Commission and was made with synthetic fur. Any future purchases and renovation of old clothes and apparel formal wear will continue in this way, as we fully support animal rights ".
Hull, Lord Mayor's red dress is trimmed with gold braid, Peta was told, but six older red robes worn rarely by other senior members of the Council were trimmed in fur. "We can replace these at this time we have no funds available, but if and when we do, it will certainly consider using faux fur," said an official of the Council.
The investigation came after the Mayor of Wrexham, David Bithell, nor a "Lord", or in England, dropped his dress with muskrat after being questioned by a supporter of Peta.
PETA said that most Britons opposed real fur. "So strong is our moral objection cruelly kill animals for their skin that Parliament passed an act prohibiting fur farming more than a decade ago. If Council leaders wearing fur-trimmed garments, it not only goes against British values but also decreases the meaning of the prohibition ".
