Actors Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and Kajol, among others, have been seen in delicate lace gowns and saris at recent public outings, and the trend has also swept international catwalks and red carpets. “Lace
is a very flirtatious and sensual fabric that has been around for generations. Not only is it feminine, the best part is that it can be dressed up or down according to the occasion,” says designer Ranna Gill. Designer Niki Mahajan adds, “Lace dresses are big because of the worldwide popularity of sheer fashion. Short, asymmetric inners accentuate the effect.”Mahajan also emphasises that it is the drape and play of transparent and opaque that creates mystery.
Fashion brands say the statement is here to stay. “The obsession with lace has widened horizons — from lace blouses and dresses to lace accessories and footwear,” says Rahul Bhalla of Latin Quarters.?
Shalini Nayar of Giovani says, “We recently did a lace line and had to increase production significantly since it proved a hotseller.”? Timsy Mittal of Iknowstudio.com says, “Lace in soft pastels and dark shades are on trend right now. Brightly coloured lace can look cheap and artificial.”
